This is my Halloween review by the way and a friend recommended this movie to me. Let’s do it.
The film starts cold open, Teddy (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is in the rest room of the fairy. He then talks to Chuck (played by Mark Ruffalo), Teddy’s new partner. They’re going to Shutter Island, a mental ward. By the first scene I noticed the backgrounds, they look odd. Intentional I think. They meet with Sir Ben Kingsley, who does a good job. Everyone in the film does a good job. The lighthouse is set up, you get a good sense of geography on this island. Which is great, because of the editing of the movie. It’s very weird and trippy. Max Von Sydow is also here doing great. I like him a lot, despite me knowing of him for four years. Michelle Williams plays Ted’s wife here and does very well at playing erring and creeping. The first dream scene is very chilling. The wife turning into ash, her bleeding form her stomach, the music playing. Record players are abundant. The water phobia is fun, we’ll get there. Jackie Earle Haley is here, too. His scene is great. A lot of A-List Actors are here. The interview scene is great. The lady miming drinking the water, because Ted hates water is great. I forgot, in the dream, Dolores is holding a bottom, but in shot she’s not. There’s a rain storm, it’s here we learn that Ted was in WWII. The scene’s awesome. A lot of great imagery. They find the Rachel character, but she’s a fake, and Ted finds the real one in a cliff later. So, Ted thinks that Shutter Island is doing mind test and the doctor’s have kidnapped Chuck, and brought him to the lighthouse. Ted goes and finds nothing. It’s also important to note that from his dreams, he’s being told to kill Andrew Laeddis, the man Ted believes killed his wife. With her saying “do it”. Finally, Ted makes it to the last room, where Ben Kingsley is. It’s here were we learn that Ted is Andrew Laeddis! This whole thing is a lie. All to help Ted realize the true. It’s a great scene and I realize if you made here I’ve spoiled a lot of the movie, but this movie’s ten years old. So, the ending. We see Ted come home, his wife, Dolores sits. He ask her “where are the kids” she saids “school”, “it’s Saturday. School’s not in on Saturday.” “Mine is” she says. He runs to the lake to his dead children. He shots his wife crying. This is a really great movie and highly recommend it. Sure I spoiled a few things, but you can watch and be amazed. I find chills when he shot her and I knew he was gotta do it. I’m giving Shutter Island a 4 out of 4. I hope you enjoyed reading and thank you for reading. Remember God made you special and He loves you very much!! I will leave you with this.
